On Wednesday, May 2nd, we celebrated our two-year anniversary!

Over the last two years, many people have contributed to our community. We are particularly grateful to those who have provided venues for us, those who have helped get the word out, and most of all, those of you who attend and participate regularly … you know who you are!

So last week, many of you came to celebrate! Here are some photos.

Michael Tangeman posted about RefreshMiami, comparing it to the First Tuesdays and such of the early dot.com days:

“It is so refreshingly unlike the dot.com days here in Miami. No suits, no VCs just flown in from the Valley, no investment bankers looking to take somebody public, no lawyers handing out cards and wanting to get in on the deals. The talk is about technology and apps and projects and what people are up to, not about shares and options and exit strategies.”

If you’re new to Miami and looking to meet and connect with other web entrepreneurs, developers and designers in South Florida, here’s how to participate:

1) Join our 220+ member group on Google for discussion on local tech issues, job postings and more;

2) Join our group on Facebook;

3) If you’re on LinkedIn, we just started a group there. Here’s the link to join;

4) Subscribe to the our blog;

5) Come to our next meetup! Our next event is on May 28th in Coconut Grove … see you there!

So its been 2 years. Wow. In the last 2 years I have either met or interacted with hundreds of great people in the south florida tech community. Lots of people have gotten jobs, made friends, and had a great time. So with that in mind, I think its time we celebrate.

From our humble beginnings at a starbucks 2 years ago where 5 of us showed up (Rebecca Saylor took the picture).

it has definitely been an incredible experience. So much thanks to all the folks who are too many to list, who have helped make Refresh, Barcamp, and our little web/tech community down here a success.

So let’s party!
Ali from Brikolodge the new co-working space in Miami has graciously offered to host the party for us in their space.

Hey Folks,
We’ve got a lot going on in the next 2 months. So I won’t waste anyone’s time, and I’ll get right to it.

BarcampMiami
BarcampMiami 2 is coming on February 28, 2008 at 1PM-5PM at the Carnival Center in downtown Miami. We’ve been generously offered space at the carnival center by the folks from Carsonified who are hosting the Future of Web Apps Conference that same week. If you’ve never heard of barcamp, think of it as an ad-hoc informal conference. Everyone participates, the agendas aren’t set in stone ahead of time, and best of all, its free!

Future of web apps
Carsonified as previously mentioned is hosting its first conference here in Miami. FOWA is expected to be a great event with thousands of people coming in from all over the world to present and to attend. The events start the same morning as Barcamp, and run through the weekend with several parties and after hours events going on at the same time.

RefreshMiami - March
March 26, 2008 @ 7:30PM we’ll be having our regular meetup. This month we’re going to have a show-and-tell format where everyone can discuss the projects they’re working on, and gain valuable feedback from the community. Food and drinks will be served, and we’ll be heading over to Soyka immediately after to continue the conversation with more food and drinks.
We’ll be meeting at Todobebe’s offices in the design district.
Address is : 5400 N Federal Hwy, Miami, FL 2nd floor.
You can RSVP for the event on facebook, upcoming, or add it to your google calendar.

Hey folks, we won’t be having a December refresh event this month, but we are trying to organize a karaoke night before the new year. Make sure to subscribe to the RSS or google group mailing list to get updates on where and when.

Additionally, we’re going to be refreshing (pardon the pun) the site here to add more functionality and improve the community features of the site. If you’d like to participate in the revamp, let me know brianbreslin [at] gmail.com and you will receive credit/linkback on the site.

happy holidays!
